Alcohol Extracted Salves

Alcohol Extracted Salves

1 part dried herb, ½ part alcohol, 7 parts oil

1.      Grind plant material in blender until powdery.

2.      Weigh plant material and pour into bowl

3.      Add ½ part alcohol (grain or isopropyl) for every 1 part herb to herbs in bowl. (5 oz. of herb would need 2.5 oz. (volume) of alcohol.)

4.      Work alcohol through herbs until all herbs are moistened.

5.      Cover  and let stand for ½ hour. This releases the non-oil soluble constituents to alcohol.

6.      Pour herbs and oil (7 parts) into a blender and blend at low speed at first, gradually turning blender to high speed.

7.      Blend until the sides of the blender container get warm.

8.      Turn off blender, pour slurry thru strainer lined with cheesecloth and allow to drip into a measuring bowl.

9.      Use 1/5 to ¼ as much beeswax (by weight) as oil (by volume). If you have 1 cup of oil, then your beeswax should weigh about 1.5 to 2 oz.

10.  Melt beeswax in top of double boiler, add strained oil and heat just until all are liquid.

11.  Pour into containers and cool.
